25 bloody years

Happy Anniversary to me. It’s 25 years to the day since I stepped off the good ship Leonid Sobinov at Southampton docks after a six-week haul from New Zealand, where I was born and spent my pre-teen years.

The ship was scrapped in 1999, but I figure I’ve got a few good years left in me yet.

  1. I once went from NZ to Australia on the Fedor Shalyapin, back when it was the cheapest way to travel. Really good borscht, but I swear one night they served roasted seagull. Three days was plenty, six weeks … I’d have jumped overboard.

  2. Wow, I can’t bear 13 hours of intercontinental flight… What in the hell do you do for six weeks on a ship? Apart from reading “The Lord of The Rings” six times, I mean – after all, NZ is now the official Middle Earth(tm).

  3. Kia Ora. Dunno Maori for happy 25th Anniversary. anyway. that’s all :)
